This blog is about the detailed description of my personal development and personal outcome on the practice option Develop a Character. I will analysis the parallel between the practice option and my personal major, and also record my personal achievements. In I mainly choose to study sustainability as one of the themes of this unit, so this blog will also focus on this theme.
First of all, the practice option Develop a Character has provided me with many new skills in the practical operation of making fashion images. We learned a lot of professional methods about special effects make-up in class. I think understanding these will give me new effects I can try for my actual shooting and production process in the future. The course also provides me with a lot of basic knowledge about make-up, so that I can better communicate with the make-up artist in my later shooting process. Secondly, our tutor talked about how to be more ethical and sustainable choosing, using and recycling products for make-up using. I think my major has a lot in common with this. I am from Fashion Styling and Production course. In the process of making fashion images, we will also use a variety of props, clothing, materials used for the setting and consumables such as paint, plastic sheets, fabric, etc. Therefore, it’s really important for us in the whole production process, we make careful and eco-harmless choices when selecting objects in the early stage, using in the shooting process, and the treatment and recycling of objects in the later stage. Although the two majors often face different kinds of objects, it is the same essential thing to make a conscious choice.
Let’s talk about my personal outcome. I’ve created a character that is connected to ecological balance. This character originally needs actual special effects make-up and image production, and then it is presented in the form of image. However, due to the epidemic situation, we were unable to obtain relevant materials, so I could only explain the concept of my creation and my sketch. This character is inspired by the concept of earth, nature and ecological balance being as the centre of everything. The origin and importance of this concept are explained in more detail in my first blog. This character actually represents everything, including all the material and consciousness in the world, including our earth, nature, your thoughts, my body and so on. I want to personify the sum and let him present in front of us as a person with head, body and facial features. His whole head surface is blue, and then spread down to the middle of the body, gradually spread to the limbs in the process of body skin surface gradually become black, in which hands and feet as the ends of the body are the deepest black. This highlights the character’s ability to self purify and metabolise, as well as his ability to make dark, dirty actions. It has a white dot in the centre of its head and a white dot in its heart, which emphasises the importance of consciousness for this role. I want to pass on to the outside world that the insignificance of human beings in the world through this character. Therefore, we should always be cautious and introspective.
