The impact of fashion on human society is huge. After finishing the lecture of better lives in the first two weeks, I became more aware of the inseparable relationship between fashion and society. The lectures of Katelyn Toth-Fejel and Nina Stevenson gave me a more comprehensive understanding of this knowledge and reflected on my future life.

In the presentation, Katelyn also mentioned that fashion sustainability can only be realized under the full functions of economy, environment and society.

Katelyn’s presentation said that from 2000 to 2014, global garment output doubled. The data has not been counted until now, but I believe that under the rapid development of social networks in recent years, the growth of the fashion industry is even greater. With the improvement of people’s living standards, people are increasingly pursuing quality of life. The pursuit of fashion is one aspect of performance. In fact, a large part of people’s pursuit of fashion comes from the increasingly developed social media. People are constantly phasing out clothes and buying new ones. People around me often have this extreme idea. They wear a piece of clothes and take pictures to upload to the ins. Then they can’t wear them anymore. This piece of clothes is often buried in the closet.

One example mentioned in the lecture was that a skirt was photographed by all three generations of grandchildren. I do n’t know if it ’s just to commemorate the photo shoot or whether they really have practiced it. Undoubtedly, this is a very environmentally friendly and worthwhile move. From this, I think of vintage and remake is also a good form to do the sustainability, which in my opinion are originally intended to pursue personal fashion on the basis of recycling and save resources.

Even now it seems that some fashion industries are relatively mature in their own right, but for the entire human social system, there is still much to be improved. We should start with ourselves, no more and more stuff. The focus of this topic is very good, fashion is not just the surface, these lectures made me think deeply. At the same time I am looking forward to incorporating those ideas into my work.
