I choose this blog because I also interesting about this lecture-the culture sustainability lecture by John Lau. And I am Japanese, so I want to look up how non-Japanese think about this Japanese culture. And I want to know about what and how original picture (seen from the Western perspective) and picture flipped sideways (seen from the Japanese perspective) are seem and think differently. The key point is from Japanese picture The Great Wave Off Kanagawa by Hokusai Katsushika from original picture and pictures from the Japanese perspective, those have a different meaning, and also in the lecture, John Lau pointed out one simple thing could be to do differ depending on the culture and person. And I like the quotation from Lau said: “challenging yourself,.. weather you are seeing is a true representation of what it is intended form.” From this quote, I quite understand the Western perspective and Japan (Asian) perspective but I am not sure because of Western perspective, the waves are coming from left to right, so it seems like the fisherman are riding the waves because I’ve only seen the original image before and I already have strong image and meaning. I want to say my opinion, original picture and picture seen from a Japanese perspective are all same feelings, those 23 fishermen are riding a boat and the waves are almost crashing into the fisherman even Japanese culture is read from right to left and Western culture is read from left to right. Because the waves are too powerful and the way to use colours are showing distance and the size of waves, boats, human, and mount Fuji are different. And advice is next time when you say some opinion, try to make two more opinions or examples because there is more point to talk about and show out. In conclusion, the key point from this blog is John Lau pointed out interpreted differently on Western culture and Japanese culture.
