Blog post 2
After learning the lecture of a better live unit, I got so many feelings. I understand that the things we are doing are much important than I think before. I feel I have to know more about fashion.
One of the topics that we are a force on is sustainability. After listening to the lecture, I knew the importance of sustainability in the industry. I have understood that fast fashion poses a great threat to the environment. Then I realize that the performance make may also cause the same problem. First, makeup is always related to chemical products, when manufacturing chemical products, certain pollution will inevitably occur. I should minimize the use of contaminated products in the project that I do in the future.
As we know the cosmetic have a period of use, and expired products must be disposed of, this will cause a lot of waste and pollution. I think I should try to use products with a longer shelf life and reduce the use of the disposable tool.
Another problem in the cosmetic industry is animals test, I think this is extremely cruel. Fortunately, the animal problem has been paid attention to the public. Many of the brands have been think of environmental and ethical issues, more and more brands have also started actions to create a better industry.
I feel when I am doing my project or jobs in the future, I must be careful of the product I am using. I do not want to encourage bad behavior.
Maybe start from little things such as we are using so many of the napkin when we are doing makeup. I can use a high temperature sterilized towel instead of paper towels.
Inclusiveness is also a very important subject, in my study, I think that we cannot overemphasize the beauty in a fixed sense in our future creations, especially in the process of creating characters. We must diffuse our thinking when we are designing characters. Also, we should be very careful not to let our characters hurt special groups of people.
Through Lecture 4: Laura Salisbury, Inclusion I realized that when we make prostheses for others, we have to consider different situations. This is not just saying that we want to make things for people with disabilities, is more about creating the items or prosthesis that you can use whether you have a disability, tall, short, fat or thin.

In the peer review, I read many blogs, and finally, I chose Xinya Huang’s Themes reflection. The reason I chose her blog because she raised some questions about the makeup industry in the blog. I am very interested and think more deeply about the impact of the better live unit on my profession, which has inspired me a lot.
She first mentioned that sustainability is also essential in the makeup industry. After realizing the impact of fashion on the environment, she discovered that the makeup industry also had an impact on the environment. Cosmetics are chemical products, and wastewater is produced during the production process, causing pollution to the environment. For example, in the manufacturing process of artificial limbs, the raw materials used will also produce sewage during the production process. Not only in the production process but also in the process of using cosmetics, it will cause more or less pollution to the environment. For example, facial cleansers and shower gel contain exfoliating microorganisms made of polyethene, which is a source of marine pollution. Xinya also mentioned in the blog about the use period of cosmetics. It is not difficult to find that people do not pay much attention to the use period of cosmetics, and most people will not consider whether they need this product when buying cosmetics. As a result, a large number of expired cosmetics are produced. I think this situation has an undeniable connection with the distortion of consumer culture mentioned earlier. Many cosmetics contain some unique metal ingredients, and these ingredients are the culprit of soil pollution.
In the blog, Xinya mentioned that the behaviour of using animals for safety testing in the cosmetics industry had been valued by the public. Animal testing is very inhumane and cruel. The cosmetics industry is also aware of this, and many brands have also taken action to cancel the act of animal testing. It can be seen from this point that the cosmetics industry is also making great efforts to reform, trying to implement sustainability in the makeup industry. In recent years, environmentally friendly organic cosmetics have been loved by consumers. The birth of organic cosmetics is a sign of sustainability in the cosmetics industry. Organic cosmetics are not only very friendly to the environment, but also do not use animal testing, and organic cosmetics will not add some special chemical additives, but also very friendly to people’s bodies.
As a future makeup artist, considering the hygiene issues and the particularity of industry norms, it is inevitable that many disposable products will be used in the creative process. After reading Xinya’s blog, she made some suggestions, such as using a high temperature sterilized towel instead of tissue paper. I like this opinion very much and gave me some inspiration. Before applying makeup, ask the performer if they are willing to use the high temperature sterilized towel. The performer explains the reason for doing so and can suggest that the performers prepare their own towel. Use ourstrength to make some changes.
I like this blog very much and gave me much inspiration. As a makeup artist, I will minimize the use of disposable products during the creative process. From small things to details to change some of my bad behaviour.
