Blog 1:The relationship between fashion and nature
‘A dynamic process which enables all people to realise their potential and to improve their quality of life in ways which simultaneously protect and enhance the Earth’s life support systems’
I watched about lecture theme of Nature from Kate Fletcher, and I have a lot of words to talk about nature. Why I have so many words to say? The one reason is some bad people to eat innocent and virus bats led to a virus outbreak and this virus kills many people. The second reason is that January this year became the hottest January in history. I think these are the result of human beings destroying nature. So I think people should do all their responsibilities to protect and improve the life system of the earth. Otherwise, it is very likely that humans will accelerate to disappear on the earth and produce new species.
When it comes to the relationship between the fashion system and nature, the apparel and textile industry is the world’s most polluting industry after the oil industry. Each stage of the clothing life cycle poses a threat to the planet and resources. First of all, one kilogram of cotton fabric can be made into a T-shirt and a pair of jeans. In this process, more than 20,000 liters of water are consumed. Second, the process of making raw materials into various clothing, including a series of dyeing and decoration processes, during which up to 8,000 different chemicals are used. What about unwelcome, broken or outdated clothing? Most of them are basically discarded in huge landfills. After incineration, garbage will produce many toxic gases, such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, benzene compounds and other harmful gases, and many carcinogens. These are very harmful to people’s health.
In order to discuss how to maintain the ecological balance between clothing and nature, my friend and I interviewed many very tasteful people on the theme of London’s fashion wear and got a lot of ideas about sustainable dressing. 80% of people go to charity shops and vintage shops for second-hand shopping. In my opinion, I think these views are worthy of publicity from the media. At the same time, I think we can donate clothes that we don’t need to a charity shop or donate to HM to reuse resources. If we don’t have the resources, we can’t do fashion.
To conclude, we should call on everyone to save resources and make the planet a better place.
